🐖 Non-halalRM5–RM25

Order: Original nama donut; Malaysia-only flavours like Cham, Milo, Pandan and Banana Fritter Caramel

Tokyo's queue-magnet nama donut bakery picked KL for its first Southeast Asian shop, and the lines haven't really eased since. The dough is barely crisp outside and almost custardy inside, and the local-only flavours give you a reason to go back.

Root House by Gēn

Jalan Burma, George Town, Penang

🐖 Non-halalRM100–RM200

The team behind Michelin-starred Gēn turns its attention to Malaysian Chinese cooking, tracing Hokkien, Cantonese and Teochew roots in a restored 1926 heritage building. It's polished but still feels like home food, and the herbal-tea cocktail bar is a nice extra.

Jalinan

Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur

🐖 Non-halalRM30–RM70
